Englefield Estate has been in the stewardship of the Benyon family for more than 250 years. The woodland covers over 25% of the total area of the Estate, which is 3 times the national average. The Estate's woodlands, including formal parkland, extends to approximately 3500 acres (1,400 ha), of which 60% are broad-leaved and 40% are coniferous. Woodland management has been careful to ensure that all those aspects that most people identify with a typical English landscape are preserved.
All Englefield Estate Woodland has FSC accredited certification. This means that the woodland has been independently inspected and evaluated according to strict environmental, social and economic principles and criteria as agreed by the Forestry Stewardship Council A.C. This is a strong endorsement of the Estate's commitment to the Long-Term sustainability of our traditionally managed woodland and our respect for the countryside in all of its aspects.
Statutory designations include Pamber Forest SSSI, North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, several scheduled ancient monuments, Countryside Heritage Site designations. Over 500 ha of the Estate are on the Ancient Woodland Register. |
