Education: Overview

Through its own initiative and with the co-operation of The John Simonds Trust (a local rural educational charity) the Estate provides access to many schools.

Wetland meadows adjacent to the River Pang are farmed under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and with the help of an education supplement, provide a location for many school groups to study river and waterside landscape features.

In June each year the Estate hosts the Englefield Countryside Days for Schools. Approximately 1500 primary school children from the Reading and Newbury area spend a day looking at all aspects of farm, estate and heritage management.

There are many curriculum opportunities for educational visits to the Estate and assistance is provided on request. The Estate has a detailed Health and Safety Policy for all schools visits.
