Education & Environment Officer
Joining the estate in 2020, Liz supports our education, environment and social initiatives.
The role involves coordinating the Estate’s environmental and sustainability activities covering a range of projects aimed at improving the estate’s natural capital, becoming a net zero business and operating sustainably.
Liz is responsible for the annual Englefield Schools Days event in June, welcoming primary schools across Berkshire to explore the estate and learn about sustainability, including forestry, farming, habitats and wildlife and history. She also coordinates secondary school and research activities, including work experience placements and field studies.
Liz helps those living in and around the estate engage in community and wellbeing activities such as tree-planting, local history visits and walking for health.
After her Zoology degree, Liz worked as an IT trainer and in workplace communication. She then returned to academia at the University of Reading, gaining a PhD in agricultural ecology in 2007 and carrying out postdoctoral research, focussing on farmers’ land-management objectives and how these link to wildlife and sustainability, including bird populations, wildflower meadows, soils and biofuel crops.
Liz enjoys long-distance running, often exploring the numerous trails through Englefield Estate forests. She has two young children.
The Englefield Estate manages 14,000 acres of mainly rural land and property in West Berkshire. We are hands on in the management of our farming, forestry and property interests and take a long-term view of good stewardship, investment and building strong local relationships.
