Netflix returns to the Englefield Estate to film its latest romantic comedy, Too Much

Rom-com fans will be able to see Englefield House and parts of the Estate on their screens when tuning into Netflix’s new series, Too Much, which was released on the 10th July 2025.

The highly anticipated, romantic drama follows main character, Jessica Salmon (Megan Salter) as she moves from the USA to London to begin a new life after a break-up. Over the ten episodes, Jessica meets her unexpected match, Felix (Will Sharpe) and navigates the expectations and realities of living in London.

In episode eight viewers will watch scenes filmed in the formal state rooms at Englefield House, including the Dining Room, Drawing Room and Library. Outside, the South and West Terraces were also used, as was the beautiful and historic, St Mark’s Church, located on the Estate.

The production team, WTTV Productions Ltd, and series creators, Lena Dunham and Luis Felber, needed a location within the “aesthetically beautiful, quintessential English countryside”, to film an aristocratic country wedding and the wedding reception scenes inside the House.

Supervising Location Manager, Nick Marshall, said he’s long admired Englefield House, “waiting for the right project to match with it,” adding, “as soon as I read the episode in question, I didn’t have to think twice – Englefield House was ideal.”

“The script required the church for the wedding and the stately home to be adjacent to one another. Knowing Englefield from previous experiences, it was the first place I thought of and, of course, met that criteria,” explained Nick.

Being able to film in St Mark’s Church, which is a stone’s throw from the House, helped the crew both with its editorial timeline and with the actual filming operation. Nick said: “We were very grateful to have been granted permission to film at St Mark’s Church by the Diocese, and to have been given guidance and support by Reverend Julia Myles and Englefield’s Filming and Events Manager, Peter Carson.”

The space and infrastructure available at the Estate to cater for the large production was key to Nick and his team’s decision to choose Englefield for what they described as a “sizeable & challenging shoot”, which not only included a large cast and crew, but horses and dogs that needed providing for too.

Nick also said that “being a private estate and having one point of contact and one Location Agreement made everything so much easier and so much more enjoyable.” He added, “Peter, through whom everything filtered and with whom I would liaise with frequently – was an absolute pleasure to work with. So helpful and understanding of the demands of filming, whilst ensuring the fundamental and necessary estate-rules were adhered to.”

Englefield’s Filming and Events Manager, Peter Carson said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Nick and the team behind Too Much, to Englefield.

“The Locations team had a very clear vision, and it was wonderful to see this brought to life at Englefield House and St Mark’s Church. Our role is to ensure filming runs as smoothly as possible and when this happens, because of teamwork and also because of the Estate’s unique set-up, it’s incredibly rewarding.

“This production was particularly special for me as my daughter, Bea, was cast as a flower girl in the wedding scenes. She was so excited to be involved in a large-scale production, learn from the professional actors and actresses, and experience having her hair and make-up done by artists for the first time. A big thanks to the whole team for making her so welcome.”

Englefield House has played host to other Netflix-original dramas, including featuring as Sandringham in The Crown. It also appeared as Godmersham House in the BBC’s production of Miss Austen which aired in February 2025.
