Snowman Trail

Here we ‘snow’ again! The Englefield Estate Snowman Trail is back for 2025. Wrap up warm and head out with family and friends and see how many you can find!

The 20 wooden snowmen have been painted by local children, and you can find them in woodlands near Mortimer West End, Mortimer, Silchester and Burghfield Common.

This year’s trail will be open every day from Thursday 18th December until Monday 5th January 2026.

If you need a helping hand to track down the snowmen, click here to view our interactive map. This can be viewed on your mobile device while you’re out and about.

Click on the snowman’s location to find out who designed it.

For little legs, there are a collection of snowmen closer together in the College Piece woodland, close to Mortimer – perfect for younger children or those unable to walk as far.

Click here to download a PDF map – if you’d prefer to print one and take it with you.

Don’t forget to share your photos with us too, using #EnglefieldSnowmen or tag us on Instagram @englefieldestate, Twitter @EnglefieldUK and Facebook/EnglefieldEstate.

A big thank you to the eight schools that helped us design the snowmen.

They were Burghfield St Mary’s Primary School, Garland Junior School, Mrs Bland’s Infant and Nursery School, Mortimer St Mary’s Junior School, Mortimer St John’s Infant School, Silchester Primary School, Sulhamstead and Ufton Nervet Primary School and The Willink.

Also getting in on the design fun this year were Squirrels from 1st Ufton Nervet Scout group, Cubs from 1st Burghfield & Sulhamstead Scout Group, young people from Stable futures, Amegreen Children’s services and the St Mary’s Church, Burghfield Youth Club.

What you need to know:

  • Limited parking is available at some woodland entrances and on the roadside, but please ensure you leave gateways clear for emergency access. These spaces are very limited, so it is best to park in the local village car parks.
  • Remember, this is all outdoors, so dress appropriately for the weather. Welly boots or walking boots, woolly scarves and warm coats are recommended!
  • The trails are suitable for off-road buggies, but these are woodland paths so you may encounter rough/uneven terrain and some obstacles. All the snowmen can be reached from main paths, you won’t need to go into the trees.
  • If you find a poorly or injured snowman, please email its location to forestry@englefield.co.uk.
  • Dogs are most welcome to join you, but please ensure that they are well behaved and you pick up after them.
  • The trail is free to all and open all day every day from Thursday 18th December 2025 until Monday 5th January 2026… although we highly recommend exploring the woodlands in daylight hours!
  • There are no toilets or refreshments in the Estate woodland. Pack a picnic and a flask!
  • To walk to all the 20 snowmen is over 9 miles. If that’s too much for little legs, why not split your visit across a few days of the school holidays?
  • Any photos shared using #EnglefieldSnowmen or that tag Englefield Estate social media accounts may be shared on our social media channels and/or website.
